How Can You Be More Happy Today? 




We are always looking for ways to be more happy. American culture has conditioned most of us to materialism. We want the latest cellphone gadget or the newest car. We struggle to keep up with the Jones'. In the end, we lose sight of what we have and focus on what we don't have.

It goes without saying, most of us live good lives. If you have access to food, education, and a good home, you are better off then a lot of people in this world. Technology has advanced tremendously in the past fifty years. Kings from the Medieval Times could only have dreamed of having the opportunities we have today. For example, on any given day, I can book a flight across the world. Boot up my computer and instantly with people on the other side of the world via Skype, or what about driving anywhere my car will take me.

Yet, we feel unhappy. We feel anxiety or are constantly bothered by the feeling of not having enough.

Take a moment to focus on the following top ten things you can do to be more happy.

1) Appreciate what you have. 


There is a common saying that goes something like this, "You don't know what you have until you lose it". Nothing is guaranteed in life. Don't take any day for granted.

2) Forgive and forget


There will be people out there who hurt you either emotionally or physically. Keeping those negative feeling only eats away at you. It doesn't hurt the person who hurt you - only yourself. Let it go and forgive and forget.

3) Find tasks to keep yourself busy


Have you ever felt like time stood still? Do you find yourself asking yourself where the time has gone? Being in the zone is a great way of building your happiness. You are so engulfed in an activity that you, for a lack of a better phrase, feel at peace or "one with yourself".

4) Think positively


We can't always be positive, but when given the chance why not make an effort? Turn that negative into a positive. It will make a difference. Your positive vibe will rub off on those around you. Then they will act more positive toward you. "What comes around goes around" - wise words from a wise artist.

5) Avoid social comparisons


Everyone has a different journey in life. No one person's experiences are exactly the same. It's unfair for you to compare your life with someone else's. You should be comparing where you are now versus where you were before.

6) Stop to Smell the Roses


While it's nice to speed through life like a bullet going towards a target, the journey is what matters most. The experiences you have will always be better than the material things you have. Life is not a race, we all reach the end sometime. Why not take the opportunity to stop and smell the roses?

7) Help Others


The best thing you can do for yourself is to help others. How good did you feel inside when you last helped someone?

8) Stick to Your Goals


Commit to your New Year's resolutions or goals. Good things start to happen when you do that. One thing leads to another and before you know it, you'll have achieved your goal. Or who knows, you may find yourself on another path. Action begets action. There's a saying "you stick around the barber shop long enough, you'll eventually get a haircut".

9) Build Social Relationships


We are social creatures and need to cultivate meaningful relationships. Simple as that.

10) Be Spiritual 


There are billions of people on this earth, why do you feel like you are mightier than anyone else? We all have our thinking and way of life. Wrong or right depends on who's view point it is. Recognize that we all have more in common than we know. Life is bigger than us.
